FEBRUARY 2008 YANG WORKSHOP - Yes, February!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Evanston Go Club is proud to present our ninth annual Winter Workshop.
This year we are delighted to bring back Mr. Yilun Yang, 7 Dan Professional!
IMPORTANT CHANGES...
THE DATE:
As you may know, we have always held this workshop on the weekend of Martin
Luther King Day, in January. However, the Oza tournament is held that
same weekend every other year. Two years ago, we had the lowest attendance
of any prior workshop due to the Oza. This January is an Oza year, so
I have decided, with Mr. Yang's approval, to change the date.
THE DURATION:
In addition, this workshop will be TWO days instead of the usual three.
Of all the comments I have received from people who wanted to attend a
workshop but couldn't, the most common has been difficulty setting aside
three full days. In an effort to open up attendance to newcomers, I am
trying a two-day workshop this time. The price will be adjusted accordingly.
So this year's workshop is being held SAT & SUN, FEBRUARY 16 and 17.
The cost will be $135.00 instead of the usual $200.00.
THE SIZE:
Last year was our largest workshop ever, at 28 attendees. While it was
nice to have such a large group, the analysis time per game was a bit
short. So this year I am limiting the enrollment to a maximum of 24.
I expect this workshop to fill up quickly! I won't be surprised if I have
to turn some people away. So here's the deal to make sure it's fair...
THE REGISTRATION PROCESS...
If you want to attend, *** SEND ME AN EMAIL*** right away to hold your
spot. Then send me a check. I will register the first 24 people whose
email request I receive. Once I have 24 people registered, I will accept
additional registrations on a standby basis only. If someone in the first
24 cancels, I'll register the first person on standby, and so on.
The early bird gets the territory. :)
BACK TO THE ANNOUNCEMENT...
Mr. Yang is the chief instructor of the American Go Institute in Los Angeles,
California. He has taught at the U.S. Go Congress, on the Internet, and
holds seminars all over the country. He is widely regarded as one of the
finest instructors in the world.
This 2-day workshop will be held Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February
17 in Evanston, Illinois. The workshop is open to all levels, however
knowledge of the rules and fundamental concepts of the game is required.
The workshop will include lectures, game analysis, and everyone will play.
Mr. Yang has developed an effective workshop format that enables all participants,
from beginners to advanced players, to improve their skills.
The workshop will run from 9 AM to 6 PM each day. Lunch is included in
the fee.
*** THE WORKSHOP WILL BE LIMITED TO 24 PARTICIPANTS ***
The workshop will be held at the Evanston Business Center, 2022 Dempster
Street in Evanston, Illinois. This is the same place we were in last year.
It is about a mile from downtown Evanston.
